The AIM program at SickKids Hospital uses artificial intelligence in several key areas to improve health outcomes in children:
Mayo Clinic uses AI to detect and diagnose heart problems early. This technology analyzes ECG data, helping to identify heart failure, detect arrhythmias and speed up diagnosis in the event of a stroke. AI at Mayo Clinic is also being used in mobile apps, such as the Apple Watch, to monitor heart health.
Professor W. Orłowski Hospital in Warsaw was the first facility in the capital to implement BrainScan CT solutions based on artificial intelligence. This technology supports brain imaging diagnostics, offering clinicians precision, speed and assistance in diagnosing, which translates into higher standards of patient care.
AI at the Cleveland Clinic is used in neurosurgery, neurology and neurorehabilitation, improving the diagnosis and treatment of neurological diseases. This technology, including machine learning and deep learning algorithms, supports doctors in interpreting complex medical data, leading to more precise diagnoses and more effective therapies. As Dr. John Morren points out, AI has great potential in medicine, allowing not only to automate tasks, but also to support doctors in their daily practice.
Artificial intelligence improves breast cancer risk assessment by 22%, using complete patient history for more accurate assessments. Studies have shown that the best AI algorithm is at least as accurate as the average radiologist, allowing for early detection of tumors and potentially replacing one of the radiologists in the diagnostic process.
Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center has developed QuitBot, an app that uses AI to support people who want to quit smoking. This app draws on more than 20 years of research by smoking cessation experts at Fred Hutch, offering personalized support through AI-powered conversations. QuitBot is available free of charge. It helps users to set a quit date and deal with temptations and habits, and provides answers to their questions about quitting smoking. Dr. Jonathan Bricker points out that the app offers unique, personalized support that makes the process of quitting smoking more engaging and effective.
Artificial intelligence at Johns Hopkins University has identified lung cancer based on specific DNA fragments in the blood. A novel test based on AI algorithms enables early detection of lung cancer by analyzing irregular DNA fragments, which can greatly improve early detection and treatment of cancer. “A simple blood test that can be done in a doctor's office can tell patients if they have potential signs of lung cancer and whether they should undergo further CT scans,” says Dr. Victor Velculescu.
Hamilton Health Sciences uses AI in CREATE to support cardiac diagnostic decisions. Artificial intelligence helps determine which procedures are most appropriate for patients, for example by indicating which patients need invasive coronary angiography and which ones may benefit from a less invasive CT scan. Preliminary research has shown that AI can improve patient outcomes and reduce healthcare costs.
AI at Baptist Health Miami Neuroscience Institute accelerates stroke care using the VizAI platform. This technology uses FDA-approved algorithms to analyze medical images in real time, allowing for faster diagnosis and treatment. Dr. Robert Wicks emphasizes that AI allows immediate access to detailed images of the brain, which significantly improves treatment outcomes.
WellStar Health System is one of the largest and most integrated health care systems in the U.S. For the mental health of its employees and their families, WellStar has implemented AI solutions called Spring Health. As a result, they gained quick access to therapy, coaching, medication management and digital resources. The program resulted in a 600% increase in the use of mental health services and significant savings, amounting to $4.30 for every dollar invested in the first year.
